I've read about fitment problems with the Bilstein touring class rear shocks. The HD are very expensive ($130 per for the front, $65 per for the rear) and have a reputation for giving a harsh ride.
KYB is cheap but I've also heard negative comments about the ride - too harsh on roads that are not in good repair.
This brings me to Sachs, formerly known Boge from what I can tell (both brands are owned by the ZF group). Their "Turbo Gas" struts/shocks are reasonably priced. Looks like I could do all four corners for under $200 including shipping.
FCP Groton also has something that is branded 'Meyle.' It is significantly cheaper than their other offerings, which raises an eyebrow. I don't want the cheapest thing going, but on the other hand, the parts will be installed in a 30 year old car that has 400K+ miles on the clock.
I've ruled out Gabriel and Monroe, mostly due to the fact that they seem to give an overly soft/mushy ride.
I'm leaning toward a set of the Turbo Gas. Any reason not to go with these?
