Which coolant temp sensor is this? 200 1984

I'm trying to replace the coolant temperature sensor for the fuel injection system (LH 2.0). I ordered one and replaced it at the location circled. Is this the sensor for the LH system or for the dash temp gauge? (I may have been sent the wrong type of sensor but the one I extracted from the engine looked just like what I ordered, so I installed it.)

The Bentley manual said that the sensor needed was located under the third intake tube...not sure which one that is. An illustration showed the sensor located at the back of the engine next to the firewall. If that's the case, how does one access that area without taking off the entire intake manifold?

I'm chasing a poor fuel economy problem, BTW.
