'91 240 sedan - trunk doesn't latch/catch when closed 200 1991

I have a '91 240 sedan with central locking.

Tonight, I noticed my trunk latch isn't even 'catching' when I close it, never mind locking. I've tried firmly closing it several times and I can still lift the trunk open without having to press the chrome release handle.

From the inside, the cable appears to be moving back and fourth when I try to lock and unlock with the key. The darn latch just doesn't appear to be catching when I shut it. The trunk is closing properly/flush as it should.

I've never heard of any latch problems on a 240 before nor can I find any when searching.

Any suggestions?
