DIY Hood seal replacement. Making do. 87-740 700

Seal came loose from plastic retainers at firewall(11@2.79ea at volvo)
I drilled through the seal, enlarged the holes slighly and used plastic, push-in type, carpet retainers(I found them at ace hardware .49ea). I Put a bead of silicone sealant on the firewall before installing. This was a less expensive solution ,plus I was not certain if the original retainers would hold, since they tore loose from the seal.
Once that seal is in place it creates a little drainage canal for the rain water to drain to both sides of the engine compartment. No seal, water goes straight for your distributor, which could cause problems.
This repair turned out well. Only took about 20min once materials were present. Just be sure you dont tear the rubber seal while drilling. Be Careful!

The seal itself was priced at $41.00. I would hope that includes the retainers. If you go that route.

Happy new years!

Larue.
