Oxygen sensor fixes sluggish acceleration - A satisfying repair 700

Oxygen sensor fixes sluggish acceleration (increase in MPG expected but too early to know). Bosch unit dead after 10 months.

Replaced it with NTK 25034 (great deal at amazon right now).

Old sensor did fluctuate between .22 and .77 but target range is .1v to .9v. Heater wire resistance measured 8.8 when hot, should be 13 ohm, so that is a clear off-spec number. Only the contrast with the new sensor does old one look lazy. My impulse to go ahead and try a new one was partly knowing old sensor had a tough beginning with oil leaking on it from my defective rebuilt turbo (that's another story).

New sensor volt readings fluctuated much quicker and were higher and lower than before. Drove car. couldn't believe the difference! Snappy response at the gas pedal, smooth acceleration through all the auto shifts. My car returns! Wish I had done this two months ago...

This replacement shows how important that every part in the LH (2.2 my car) system is working correctly for performance and efficiency. I believe the ECU was kicking into default mode when it realized the oxygen sensor was giving inadequate readings. I could hear the engine idle change when the ECU switched to default with old sensor that didn't happen with new sensor.

That's my little report! DaN

p.s. Thanks again to Art for clarifying that autoranging DVOM doesn't work for testing O2 sensor unless that feature can be turned off.
