Bought a 62 544 which looked strange at the front: one headlight trim ring is 1 1/2" higher than the other. Finally found part of the problem: one of the fenders is from a different year or model than the other, and the hole for the headlight bucket is nearly 1" higher than the other fender. One fender's chrome trim strip is bolted on; one is fastened on with spring clips. Which would be correct for a 62? I don't really want to spend for a new fender, and besides I don't know which existing one would match a new one. Does anyone have dimensions of the fenders , giving possibly the height of the headlight hole above a plane that the fender is sitting on?
The car seems to have been in a front end "incident", and with the front stripped down to the frame rails an experienced frame man tells me that it looks OK, and everything aft of the firewall is OK, so I'm planning to go ahead--if I can find a way out of this fender problem.
Many thanks!
