hesitation / dying issue fixed - ?? put solvent in tank? 200 1989

Red wagon that I had so much intermittent trouble with hesitating and dying, and then it would start back up and run for awhile (usually pretty quickly) ...

After I replaced the fuel pump that was full of red jelly, apparently from the previous owner letting it sit for three years with part-ethanol gas in it, the car seems to be running fine, after a couple of much-more-minor hesitation incidents.

So I'm wondering if there were so many globs of alcohol jelly in the fuel lines and the fuel tank that it just took them awhile to work themselves out.

And if I should put in the tank a little bottle of that solvent stuff I saw at the parts store... or is that one of those things that temporarily solves a problem but eats up the seals and such?
