M46 shifter bushing install woes 200 1986

Just installed my 'new' M46 tranny replacing my AW71. My current problem is that I placed new shifter bushings in the shifter fork and now I can't pass the retaining pin fully in place. I can only get it across to its full seated position about 80% of the way because it's so tight. For now, I'm going to place the locking screw and hope the pin doesn't back out. As tight as it is now, I don't think it will. Any suggestions or comments will help greatly.
