Soooo... I sold my 84 244 to someone.

A few times, it would not start for me. Cranked forever but wouldn't start. This happened one or two times.

It's an 84 with the B23F and manual transmission. He says he's been able to bump-start it easily if it dies, but that it will just die while he's driving. I'm going over to look at it and get more details later, but if you can help me come up with realistic problems to check, that would be helpful.

The wiring harness was supposedly replaced by the PO, but I personally see a lot of metal foil tape in the engine bay like it was just patched.

It's got the Hall sensor in the block-mounted distributor.

He said that while he's driving, the rpms start to drop, then the car stalls. I don't know where to start really, but he's my friend and I'm willing to help him fix or take the car back because I'm not willing to leave him hanging.

Before selling the car, I put a JY main(under-car) fuel pump from another mid-80's 240 in the car. I replaced the old pump because it started leaking from the commutator seal. Maybe the JY pump is junk

Any suggestions are appreciated.

My list so far:
-replace all fuses
-check in-tank fuel line for splits (see if car only stalls when below half-tank)
-check hall sensor wiring

-Failing in-tank pump? Can this cause a stall?
-Check that wiring harness was really replaced and not patched?
-Is there an alternator wire that runs under the engine and can short out and stall the car?

PS Just talked to him again -the tach drops off slowly, suggesting it's a fuel problem. I saw mention of a "ground for the main fuel pump under the rear seat". Can someone explain that a bit more? Inside or outside the car?
