89 740 rescue questions 700

There is a guy that has a nice looking 1989 740 non turbo auto tranny sedan nearby that has been sitting un-driven with brand new tires, exhaust and battery since 2006. He has bad seizures so his doctor revoked his driving privileges.

He offered the car to me for $300 If I tow it away. The tires are worth that alone I'm thinking....they have two miles on them! The battery may be toast but its an interstate.

I didn't see any sign of oil leakage from the engine or tranny when I looked at the driveway where it sits.

Is the car going to need some major work? He said he started it last summer...that was the last time he ran the car. According to the owner it ran and drove great but without a licence he wasn't able to use it. He did mention the brakes might give me a fuss since its been sitting so long.

This car is straight as an arrow and has no rust whatsoever....I have a 240 and have never owned a 740...are they relatively similar to work on? My 240 has 400,000+ while this 740 has 160,000.....would this be a totally different car to work on?

Is the $300 still a good deal for a car I will have to tow home?
