stumbling - mung in the fuel tank? 1800

Me again.

1970 P1800E. Finally working wonderfully - then while on a drive a light stumbling (missing) started that gradually got worse. Parked and looked for anything obvious - found nothing so I started it up and went around the block - it was all fine until going around a corner and it started to stumble badly. Next day, started it up and drove around the block a few times and it was fine and smooth, then turned a corner and started stumbling badly again.

So here is my working theory. There is crud in the gas tank that sloshes around when I turn a corner and plugs the supply. When the car sits for a bit, the crud settles and all is fine until a corner where it sloshes and crud gets stirred up again.

I'll borrow a fuel pressure gauge and put it on the cold start injector supply and drive around to see if the pressure drops when the stumbling happens just to confirm.

Questions:

If this is the problem, is there a filter sock in the fuel tank for this year (1970)? I guess a tank clean is my next job.

There is a bottom drain plug, and corner drain spigot (not sure why that is there) and the line that goes to the fuel pump. I don't see any way to remove a filter sock as it is not obvious from the opening at the top.

Can I use any fuel filter as an alternative to the original squarish version?

Thanks again for helping in my journey.
