HELP!
Just got home and noticed a slight hiss in addition to the cooling fans after turning off the 940 (non-Turbo).
Popped the hood and rapidly traced the noise to the fine green mist spewing from the bottom side of the top heater hose. It is obviously under high pressure because the stream is almost invisible until it hits the bottom hose and other parts in the area and rapidly gathers into a fast running stream of coolant.
I am hoping it is just the heater hose going bad, the stream appears to be coming from just behind the clamp and I would guess that it is roughly a 1/2" long split.
Other than a failed hose, what else should I look for?
Other than age, could there be really high pressure caused by some other failure that resulted in this split?
I am, by no means, an experienced mechanic (although I changed the spark plugs in my Chrysler T&C which means I can probably rebuild a space shuttle from spare refrigerator parts), so I am not sure if other things like a bad thermostat or a clog somewhere could have caused this.
Is it sensible for the top hose to be the one that split? Are top and bottom both under equal pressure or is there some direction of flow combined with valves somewhere that would have caused this (or should have caused the bottom one to fail instead).
This is my first disabling failure with the "new" 940, and I am still trying to make sure I got the Chrysler van put back together after the spark plugs, so I am potentially without a functioning car so HELP is much appreciated.
