B20 Rear main seal 1800 1971

I am having a problem removing the rear main seal from my engine. I have removed all of the bolts and can rotate the housing entirely around the crank but can not see how to remove the housing. I suspect that where the flywheel connects to the crank shaft is not completely disassembled but I'm not sure and don't want to break anything. My current repair manual is worthless in this matter. This car has an automatic transmission if that makes a difference. Please help.
