odometer gear failure 200 1992

I just purchased and installed a new odo gear from IPD... I followed the instructions found on OdometerGears.com's website. Th problem is it only worked for a half mile! I took it back home, removed the cluster again, and didnt see anything wrong. So I reassembled the cluster, reinstalled, and did another test drive. It worked for .7 of a mile that time.

What gives?!?!

Has anyone seen this happen before? Is the electric motor on the fritz or???

I should mention that the speedometer works fine the entire time, so I doesn't seem to be a contact/ connection issue...

Any/ all help or input greatly appreciated!
