URO front strut mounts defective? 200 1983

Hey just wanted to throw this out to the community and ask a few questions. I bought and installed two URO strut mounts from rockauto dirt cheap. One sits right about where I thought it should about even with lip on the strut tower. The other is sitting almost a full quarter inch above the lip of the strut tower and looks visibly deformed. I assumed it was defected and complained to rock auto. They sent a replacement free of charge which I installed and it also is sitting the same distance above the lip and about 1/4 in higher than the other. I am assuming both are defective mounts, both sides are still clunking worse then before and I am very much regretting wasting 40 bucks. Any suggestions for best strut mounts out there? I saw partsgeek advertise SKF mounts cheap which IPD says are the original equipment supplier.

I was also wondering if my clunking could actually be the strut inserts which I did not replace when I had the struts apart. I did replace the larger front bushing and ball joints, swapped in a used steering rack, new tie rod ends no impact on the clunking. My clunks are more like popping of some tension being released or binding when making tight turns at slow speed as well quick stops. Could this be strut inserts and not the mounts I bought? I have pics of the mounts somewhere but can't see where to upload them.
