****Moved to 544 section. Sorry its been a long time since I've been on the board***
----
I've really been enjoying my 61' 544. A few years ago I started stripping down a 1964 544 to bare metal, but ran out of time, motivation, and money to complete the project. I decided finding a complete car without tons of rust would be the best route to go. After a long wait, I took home Sofie about six months ago and plan to use my 64' as a donor car.
As I was driving to work last week at dawn the headlights shut off mid trip and have not turned back on since then. My wiring diagram shows that the headlights connect into a relay that is fed by the fuse box and then from the fuse box to the light switch. I always thought headlights were not fused..... A beam selector also ties into the headlights and the light switch. The horn is also not working. I'm not sure if that's coincidence as they appear to be on separate circuits, but a lot could have happened in 50 years.
If I recall, the foot dip switch is a common place for corrosion to occur so I might start checking there. Electrical is not my strong suit, so I wanted to solicit the advice of the board to start tackling the problems.
Shannon DeWolfe (sdewolfe on the brickboard) comes over and we make small progress on the car every few weeks to keep in on the road, but I'd like to fix this one before can come over so I still enjoy driving the car around.
I have a lot more questions and work to do over the coming months to make the car road worthy for a 300 mile round trip to Austin. I need to add seatbelts, fix the pinhole in the gas tank and fix the windsheild wipers before that happens.
Looking forward to being active on the RWD section again.
Here are some photos a buddy of mine took of the car.
