So I'm getting ready to fire up my 1970 145 S after having pulled, replaced or reconditioned, and reinstalled most things under the hood, including a swanky set of SU HS6 carbs I was able to buy to replace the Weber carb that came with the car. Doing so required me to purchase a pair of new choke cables since I no longer have the integrated coolant temp-controlled choke.
After examining the connection points where the cable housing should be secured to the carb body, however, it looks as though they aren't compatible. I showed a friend of mine the connection points, and he seems to believe that the carbs might actually be from another model (and potentially make), hence the differing choke connection. The SU's on his 1968 145 S have a clamping connection that seems to accept the cables.
But I admit that I could just be ignorant about the setup and am not seeing the obvious, so I wanted to throw this out to the BB and see if anyone has any ideas on how the cable housing is supposed to be braced using this connection.

My first instinct was to spread the halves of the "nipple" wide enough apart to accept the cable housing, and then try to clamp it using the given clamp, but after trying that approach I'm pretty convinced it isn't the right way. The housing is much larger than the diameter of the clamp, and it doesn't seem designed to be spread open that wide, let alone the nipple halves.
Any ideas? Anything obvious (or maybe not so obvious) that I'm missing? Thanks in advance!
