Hello all,
I have been presented with a unique opportunity to purchase yet another Volvo :) An acquaintance of mine is looking to sell his 1991 740 sedan soon - he has to sell it due to some circumstances that prevent him from keeping it any longer. He's being transferred overseas and is unable to keep the car, which is where I come in.
I'd like to describe the car - it's a base, naturally-aspirated sedan with almost no options. It doesn't have a sunroof, which is a selling point for me since I'm not a fan of open roofs. It has 151k miles on it, and still has the original engine and transmission (another good point). All maintenance has been done at an authorized Volvo dealer in Northern Virginia. The car has been very well-kept, with only a few issues - he said the clock can be wonky at times, and the headliner is falling down, which I can fix. Other than that, the car looks okay - it's garaged, and it's clean.
This is the main selling point for me - the gentleman is the original owner of the 740. He ordered it and picked it up in Sweden. He prefers that a Volvo enthusiast take the car and keep it up, rather than selling it to a teen who will trash it in no time. However, I don't know what to offer him - he said any reasonable offer will do. I'm thinking about $550, maybe $650. I do know that '91 740s are not as desirable as '91 240s. Any advice is much appreciated - thanks so much!
