When installing the thermostat gasket I followed the FAQ's directions and placed it on the "lip". Had I looked more closely at the picture of the broken thermostat I would have realized that the gasket fits over the outer edge as opposed to simply sitting on the "lip". The leak was driving me crazy until I saw the error of my ways.
This sight continues to save my butt.
