Easy Backup Cooling Fan Controller for $18.00 900 1997

At the risk of offending the Viking gods, I installed a backup fan controller for cheap on the 960 this afternoon. I made the decision to do this after standing in a parking lot in a very undesirable part of Florence, SC in my dress clothes and the car spewing water through a hose pinhole with the fan not running. Never Again!

I ordered my temp sensor from Rock Auto Parts then went to Auto Zone and bought a capillary tube temperature switch for $18.00. Since it is switching a ground wire there is no voltage and no contact wear involved so cheap is good in this case. With the capillary tube inserted into the upper radiator fins, I used copious amounts of black silicone to make certain that it would not back out, put a piece of hose on it and tie wrapped it to the transmission cooler line at the radiator to stabilize it. The ground is picked up off of the lugs inside the right front fender and the switch wired in parallel to the high speed side of the fan control relay (Yellow and brown wire). I set the controller to come on at 205 degrees.
My temperature sensor will be in tomorrow and I hope that resolves the issue of the gauge and fan control not working, but at least my wife can drive it now.
