engine clank sometimes when starting, also 200 1989

Another thing happening with this car - every once in awhile, when I try to start it, the engine will sort of stop with a clank of metal, then start the next time.

Can't find it now, but one time I ran across a post here on the Brickboard that mentioned something like this -- that that problem would make it sound like the engine was out of time.

Wonder if it would have anything to do with the hesitation problem.
