Interior Light Issue 200 1980

Now that I have my wife's '80 244 running again after replacing its timing belt, I thought I would continue my efforts to "improve" the situation... So I have turned to the interior dome light.

Current situation:

(a) The dome light works when turned to the "always on" position.

(b) The buzzer operates when there is a key in the ignition and the driver's door is open. However, the dome light will NOT come on if it is switched into the "on when door is open" position and the buzzer is sounding off.

(c) The right rear door works the light on and off no problem when opened/closed.

(d) The driver's side rear door will not trigger the light to illuminate when opened.

(e) The front passenger door will sometimes trigger the light to illuminate when opened - you generally have to jiggle the push button a bit once the door is opened.

I have just replaced all of the switches except the one of the front passenger door - its wire seems so short that I cannot get it out of the frame far enough to grab the connector with a needle nose and do the swap. Save the driver's door, all of the switches were an older style with a single connector and plunger that you can see move in and out to break/connect the circuit. All of the new switches have two connectors and a long, plastic barrel that hides the mechanism. I tested all new and replaced switches for continuity when the plunger is not pressed and lack of it when the pressed.

I have looked a bit at the wiring diagram Art posted for me on another issue and do not see anything that helps me understand what is going on here. Maybe you have some idea? Thanks
