What's Easiset Way(s) to Remove Hoses? 200

I often struggle to remove hoses from various components. It's not like all the hoses are readily available new. I tug, prod, twist, push with a screwdriver - often to the point of destroying the end of an old hose that otherwise could be reused. What are some tips from the experienced? It's not an issue when I'm scavenging a part in the junkyard but it certainly is when I need to work on my own engine bay. The stealership is never open on Saturdays, and ipd carries a limited number of hoses, and my sidewalk mechanic availability is weekends only. Bonus points if you can point me in the direction of the best sources for new hoses in addition to some good tips on loosening and removal without mangling them.
