A quick thanks to everyone on the Brickboard 200

Hi guys,

Over the past 4 years I have periodically popped on here to seek advice on repairing my Volvo 240.
When I first bought this car I had very little mechanical experience and had no experience whatsoever, working on any foreign made automobile.

Now that's not to say that I am now an expert on repairing my Volvo, but it does mean that I feel much more comfortable working on this car, thanks to all of the help that I've received.
Yesterday my daughter called and told me that the 240 wouldn't start when she tried to go into town and I promised her that I would look a
This eveningt it today and try to figure out the problem.

Well today I went out to try and start the car and it would barely turn over.
At that time I noticed that the only light I had on the dash was the oil light.
Thanks to a problem that I had with the alternator 4 years ago, I immediately checked the voltage on the battery (12.4 volts with the car running), and the alternator, (1.2 volts), with the car running.

The next step was to remove the exciter wire and take it to ground. At that point I was able to get the lights to come on, on the dash so I checked the ground wire off of the alternator.

Sure enough the crimped on end had broken off of the ground wire and the wire itself was hanging loose. At this point I'm pretty sure that I have found my problem.

Tomorrow I'm going to replace the wire and I feel confident that this will solve the problem. My point is that without this forum, I would not have had any idea where to begin looking and would have taken the car to a garage and spent at least $100.00 to have it diagnosed and repaired.

So as I said at the first of this post.....

I'm very thankful for the help that I've received in the past and for those who have the knowledge that are willing to spend their time helping others.

I've said it before...... this is by far the best and most helpful internet forum that I've used.
