Vickie is a 92 240 with 175K. (purchased 2 years ago and gone over with a fine tooth comb!!!)
I drove Vickie all weekend with the A/C on (was still near 100 here in West TN) and air was good and cold. - - (and I've never heard any squealing or odd noises from the fan or that area since owning the car).
My wife called me Tuesday at work and said that Vickie wasn't cooling properly - - said it was cold but not blowing air well.
First - check fuse 3 - all good there so I started the car and turned the fan on to high setting. She blows pretty good for about 1 minute and then the airflow quickly starts to fade - within 2-3 minutes no air flow at all.
I'm figuring the brushes are warn out on the motor (odd with only 175K) - but it could be the resistor is being flaky. Since either one means a number of hours taking the dash and panels apart - I'd replace both at the same time if I have to go that route.
BUT I'm truly hoping there are other options. I've had more than my share of ugly car issues for the past 2 months (totaled VW NewBeetle - cracked head on MB 300SDL, etc.....). Not only am I exhausted - but my wallet is bone dry!!!
Luckily we're quickly headed into fall and I can hold off a little while, but won't subject the Mrs & Kiddies to winter with no Heat / defrost!!!
Any other suggestions that might be an easier fix??
Thanks
Charles
Oh yea - any preferences on the motor. (without going the $225 for Original Volvo with Tasco) - Amazon has a Four Seasons, VDO, Siemens, and AC Delco - all of them are under $100. - - or is it truly better to get the Volvo original in this case??
