1987 240 B230F. The mas air meter went out yesterday. Every time I tried to start it it would run for a half second and shut off. I was able to unplug the AMM and drive it home slowly and I swapped in a used one I had as a spare (another #007 one). The old AMM's screen was black with carbon soot and was probably the original. It actually runs better AFTER it warms up and the idle increased, but when I first start it up it runs really rough and stalls out. I tried turning the adjustment screw on top and it did not seem to change anything. The problem is which way to turn it. It seems to rotate forever in either direction. How far does it turn? I also noticed that before I installed the final hose (between filter and AMM)that if I put 2 fingers across the screen to block the air ir ran better. Is this a lean/rich problem? It is almost like it needs a choke. What can I do? Could there be another problem?
