It's been a while since I've been on the sight (maybe that's a good thing?), but I'm returning because of an issue with my coolant system. Lets start out by saying I have a 1991 Volvo 760 turbo wagon, which luckily has lasted me almost 5 years, and I'm not ready to give it up yet.
I was driving yesterday, and as the the subject says, I heard a pop followed immediately by steam coming out from under my hood. I stopped the car and there was coolant everywhere underneath my car. Well, after driving home (carefully watching the temp and stopping every few blocks to let the car cool down) I took a look under the hood and noticed there was a hose that came loose.
Now, I should note that I had the radiator and thermostat replaced about 2 years ago. I am really not too familiar with the coolant system or the hoses that function with it. I can explain what the hose looks like and where it leads. It comes from the back of the engine and where it clamps to the other hose (which goes to a plate mounted on the back of the engine bay) there is a little bell or funnel shaped metal object with a small wire (hose?) that leads towards the alternator on the left side of the car and also goes into a small plate mounted on the back where a bunch of other wires are located. Maybe it's a sensor?
My check engine light had very recently come on, and I had noticed my temperature rising very slightly when I was stopped just prior to the accident. I was actually on my way to get some coolant because I thought maybe I was low.
When I look inside the hose coming from the engine, there is a little metal piece and a small black plastic disc that looks like it may have come loose from somewhere.
Please excuse me if I sound like I don't know what I'm talking about, but I have come to the board before with other issues and have been able to fix some other problems I never would have otherwise. Having been unemployed for a while I can't really afford to take it anywhere right now. I would greatly appreciated any help anyone has to offer. Like I said in the beginning, I love this car, and though I know it's getting along in years, I'm not really prepared to part with it yet. Thanks in advance!
