I am checking over my 940 (1994 Turbo Bosch 200K) and determined that the majority of the vacuum hoses need replacing. I have finally deciphered the cryptic vacuum hose diagram on the passenger side wheel well and the hose that's giving me pause goes through the firewall and is marked "Pressure Gauge" (no idea what that means -- what Pressure Gauge???).
Anyway, I have traced this tube through the firewall. It goes through on the driver's side. I have removed the panels underneath the steering wheel. The hose has a yellow stripe and after about 1 foot behind the firewall it connects to a connector to the next section of vacuum hose. That's the place to disconnect that end of the tube (and I assume this just needs heating / a darned good tug to disconnect).
My problem is the connection at the firewall itself. It's not obvious to me how to release this and get the tube to feed back through to the engine compartment. There seems to be some tight rubber grommet holding this hose in place -- is there a trick to releasing it? I can imagine struggling for an hour and destroying stuff. Do I push, pull -- what's the trick here?
Thanks,
Rob
