I decided that today was the day to replace the catalytic converter on the '94 940 turbo wagon. To my surprise, once the 3 flange nuts were removed and the flanges separated, there was was no donut gasket to be found. Apart from a little surface rust, both mating surfaces were in good shape and had separated easily.
Am I missing something? Although both the exhaust pipe and new cat match up perfectly, will I get a good seal without a gasket? Is there some other material I should be using to assure a good seal? According to the diagrams and part lists, there's supposed to be one. Of course the donut gasket I bought from Advance Auto only will match up to the female side on the cat.
Also, the pipe running out of the converter is welded to the cat and connects to the center muffler. According to all the manufacturers I've checked, this pipe is supposed to be integral to this muffler and not a separate item. Is this a separate pipe I can order or perhaps was this a Midas et al muffler shop hack job?
