Should I buy an automatic '66 122S? 120-130

Need your help sorting out drivetrain jargon. I have my eye on what's supposed to be a VG condition '66 122S. Only problem is this one has the BW35 automatic. Really prefer a manual. But now that I'm a senior citizen I appreciate Volvo quality over Volvo performance, which this transmission really kills. Once had a '68 144S with the aauto. so I know what lackluster performance is. Maybe I can live with it. But here's my question: The BW35 is a 3 spd. with 3rd being 1:1. Comparing this auto. with a man. 4 spd, 4th is also 1:1, assuming no O/D. So wouldn't the engine speed per car speed be the same in both cars, assuming the same rear end & wheel size, allowing for slippage in the auto.? Further, if the rear end ratio is lower with the automatic, like the owners manual shows in my '80 242DL (3.91 man. vs. 3.73 auto.) wouldn't engine speed be LOWER in the auto. vs. manual, again allowing for auto. slippage? This may all be academic if 122s don't have different rear ends for automatics. Your opinions, as usual, very much appreciated.
