I was checking out an engine at the junkyard today.
It looks beautiful from the outside. I think the compression tester I got from Kragen may be junk, or I've tried it on two bum engines. I'll test it in the morning on my good motorcycle engine.
Plugs 1,3,4 looked normal with large gaps.
Plug #2 was extremely rusty. It looked like someone smeared rusty paste on it.
I had the compression tester hooked to hole #2 but 1,3,4 all spat out rusty looking water. Didn't look terrible, but... rust is ba-ad Mkay?
There was coolant left in the radiator hoses - it looked and smelled normal. The dipstick looked mostly normal with a little tiny bit of discolored oil on it. There was half a cup of oil in the oilpan - it was black, and had no signs of discoloration.
Everything but that plug and the wacky compression tester says the engine is probably fine.
Thoughts?
