960 Steering rack issue...maybe? 900

I have a 1996 960 wagon which has pulled to the right before and after replacing the rack with a used one. Not only does it pull to the right but it is easier to turn to the right then the left. It has new tires, it is in alignment. The pulling to the right is not that bad but it is pretty irritating. The turning being harder to the left then the right I don't care about. I have had my mechanic recheck the alignment that he did a few months ago to make sure that is correct. It is. It makes sense that this is a problem with the steering rack but before I replace it with a rebuilt rack I wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this. It also kind of haunts me that I do remember it being harder to turn left than right BEFORE replacing the rack. I am imagining myself having replaced the rack and having the same problem and being very frustrated.

Can you guys think of anything else it could be? Or per chance have you experienced the same issue?

Thanks very much,
Jim Lee
