How come it runs better with the IAC disconnected?

The idle started being erratic on the wagon - 85 245. Just to confirm I unplugged the IAC. I don't know why. I don't know that I've read that as a diagnosis. I might have gotten that idea from unplugging the AMM to check it.

In any case, the idle smoothed right out - constant, not up and down anymore.

So how is it that it runs better with the IAC unplugged?

Do I still need to r/r it?

It seems happy to run like that all day.
