1984 244 - No temp gauge readings - gas gauge intermittently works 200

Hey everyone. New to me 84 244DL.

I pulled the instrument cluster, thinking it had a failed temp comp board, only to find it doesn't have one - 1986 was the first year with them.

I also found a plug of 2 wires, both round, that seem like they were never connected.

Is there a common fault in the board? What wires can I check that attach to the instrument cluster?

The gas gauge works intermittently - I remember reading about needing to replace a voltage regulator... where is that how-to? And might that relate to my complete lack of temp readings?

Happy Bricking
