Truck Latch Mechanism Goofed Up / Jammed. 200 1991

Hi: I have a 1991 240 sedan. The truck lid will not open. The electric locks and the keys all work fine.

It appears the latching mechanism is somehow jammed. How do I open the trunk.

I saw some post that go thru the back seat armrest access hole with extra long extensions and remove the latch mechanism. Also suggested is to cut a hole behind the rear license plate.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
