Battery light not working 200 1985

The alternator is good.The battery is good.
The battery light does not light.
The alternator is not charging the battery.
If the battery light is burnt is that the reason why the alternator is not charging the battery?
I am going to try to get at the light now.
I have been advised to disconnect the positive terminal of the battery before doing so.
