Strange things are afoot at the Circle-K. 200

Hi all.

picked up an 83 245 a couple months ago and I'm having an issue that's driving me nuts.

I haven't been driving this car since I got it, besides running it around the block a few times. I start it up and run it till warm a few times a week.
always seems to start and run well but my idle has been a bit erratic, so I cleaned the T.B. last month. it seemed to help. before I cleaned it I had an episode in which it stalled and wouldn't restart. changed the cap and rotor, plugs, and plug wires. it always started after that so I thought that was my problem. I pulled the IAC valve today to clean it, and after putting it back together it started right up. after 2-3 mins. it died and no restart.
when running it in the past, I would just start it and do other things in the garage. it normally dies as the temp gauge starts moving up to op. temp but always fired right back up.
