In a jam in Kansas City, wiper motor is dying 120-130 1966

Hey all,

This question is 2 fold: As you may or may not know, I'm driving across the country in my '66 122. It's been a lot of fun, but there have been some issues.

A fairly major issue popped up today that I need to take care of ASAP though:

The wiper motor seems to be dying. Turning it on pops the 25 amp fuse after a few wipes. It happens half way through the wipe (IE: on the way back to the parked position.) It will wipe half the window with out issue, and then it blows the fuse.

I'm in Kansas City, MO at the moment, and there is heavy rain all about. This is a problem for obvious reasons.

First off, can anyone offer any tips or tricks on pulling a wiper motor out and replacing it? Is it a tough job? Would removing the heater box make it any easier?

Secondly, is there anyone local to Kansas City that might have a spare motor, and could possibly lend a hand? I packed lots of tools but I'm not sure I have what I need to do this task, and any help would be greatly appreciated. If need be I can get something delivered but I'd hate to get stuck 2000 miles from home.

In the mean time, I've wired in a 30 amp fuse which keeps the motor working, but I think I'm on borrowed time. The motor seems to work normally with the 30 amp fuse, though sometimes on the return swipe, it slows down, the rest of the dash lights go dim, and then it resumes. The motor is also getting pretty hot to the touch when I let it run for any period.

Thanks for any assistance offered. I really appreciate it.
