1988 740 wagon auto tranny(AW70L). 211,000 miles. Today was very hot here in NJ(high 90's). After aprox. 25 minute ride tranny started slipping. Managed to make it home by stopping every few miles turning car off and letting it rest about 5 minutes then was okay for another few miles, etc, etc to the tune of maybe 5 times / 10 miles. When I got home I checked ATF fluid. It was hot as hell. Brownish. Thin and watery not thick and red. Now is the part where I admit stupidity : I was way past due for an ATF flush/change. Last time i did so was 45,000 miles ago(as I now recall ATF should be changed every 20,000 miles). Again I am stupid and forgetful and probably don't deserve a Volvo. So I flushed/changed out old ATF fluid with new ATF fluid. Everything seems fine now. No slipping. Tranny shifts nice & smooth. The question is did I do any damage ? Or did I take care of it properly ? Should I have it serviced/checked out ? Or maybe(I am hoping)I got lucky and all is okay now ?
