I cannot get my 91 940T started. I have posted on T'bricks, and am posting here as well, as I am completely lost and can use all the help I can get.
Let me set the background.
I had an issue with the this car on Saturday; it started, drove out of the shop, and died immediately. After an hour, it restarted on the second crank. An hour later, without it having moved, it refused to start. I swapped out the power stage, and it worked. The car was then parked. Two hours later, I tried to start it again, no start. I swapped the old power stage back, it started. I went for a 4 hour highway drive, it ran fine. Stopped at the halfway point for an hour, and it started right back up just fine. Got home, parked, pulled the plugs and did a compression test, reinstalled all plugs and wires in the correct sequence (I have checked several times), five hours later (engine cold) would not start.
Again today (Tuesday) car will not start, engine turns over fast, but no start.
I have swapped out coils with my 88 740T, no change. I put the 940T coil in the 740T, it starts and runs. I swapped out the power stage from the 740T into the 940T, no start.
Put the 740Tpower stage in the 940T, no start. Played with the wires on the CPS on the bell housing, no change. I have not tried putting a different CPS in the 940 as yet.
I have checked the voltage at the low side terminals of the coil, both terminals read 11.4V with ignition on. I have checked for spark at the coil(s), no spark. The new fuel pump I installed last month powers up momentarily when the igniion is switched on. I have to believe this is an ignition problem and not a fuel issue.
A bit deeper background: I installed both ECU and EZK chips from Hi Power Tuning a week ago. I had to desolder the board and install a daughterboard to do this. The car ran great afterward, and I put on maybe twenty miles.
As near as I can tell, this leaves me with very few options. Either the CPS is not working, which is not typical, as I understand it fails mainly when the engine is hot, and I am having cold start problems, or, secondly there is an issue with the way I installed the chips, or the chips themselves.
Please, can anyone shed some light on this problem?
Thanks
John D.
