Hi:
The blower motor on my 1990 240 ran perfectly until a few months ago, then, it ran intermittently for a few days and then stopped running completely.
That was back in the spring and I have put off the repair until now.
I can no longer put up with driving in a HOT car. The A/C works perfectly, as I completely overhauled the system and converted it to R134A last summer.
When I drive at highway speed and crack the back two windows, this does create a vacuum that pulls air through the system, however, otherwise, I am dripping wet with sweat from the Texas heat, and it is only in the mid 90's now, so the really hot weather has yet to arrive.
I checked the fuse for the blower motor, and it is still in tact.
I went to the junk yard and pulled a switch from another 240 and installed it. Still, the blower motor would not come back to life.
I ordered a replacement resistor (the green part that resides in the blower motor housing), however, when I was tearing my dashboard apart this evening, I noticed that the replacement part has fewer wires to connect to the four speed blower motor switch.
I hooked up the new resistor to the switch and still no signs of life from the blower motor.
I reviewed Art Benstein's excellent Web site and could not get any other ideas.
(Thank you Art for posting the pages from the shop manual!)
When I fully disassemble my car this weekend to get to the blower motor, I will check to see if the blower moves freely.
Other than that, I have not had much success when dealing with electrical items that involve resistors and the like. I tried fixing my small clock recently with new capacitors, and I was not successful.
Is there a relay for the blower motor that I should be checking also?
Any ideas concerning possible solutions to my blower motor issues would be greatly appreciated.
I am starting to lose patience with this car. I really like it, however, I am getting to the point that I am getting tired of working on it...

If it needs to be maintained, repaired or replaced on a 1990 240, I've probably done it. '90 240DL, 286K looking forward to 300K badge (or sticker??). >>You haven't really worked on a car until you draw blood<< :-}
