fuel sender seal problems 120-130

Hey,

A year ago I purchased one of those newly pressed gas tanks from
IPD because I was sick of the intense gas smell in my 122 and certain mine was old and leaking. When it came down to fastening the fuel tank sender plus rubber seal into the new tank my friend Danny who posts on here regularly found it darn near impossible to tighten the screws down completely. His conjecture was that when they painted the coating on the tank they did not cover the screw holes and the paint seeped in. Has anyone else struggled with this? Should I put a dremel tool inside the holes and grind out the paint? A new thicker rubber seal would definitely help. I am still driving in a haze of gas fumes with a brand new tank.

Any help would be appreciated

thanx

J.
