Radiator/Condenser Cooling Fan not Turning on with Start of Compressor 900 1993

I didn't find this issue specifically addressed in the 7xx/9xx FAQs so would appreciate any guidance from Team Volvo.

I have a 93 and 94 940. I noticed that with the 93 the cooling fan is not turning on when the compressor is engaged. The fan does work, evidenced by its correct functioning when the cooling system reaches the temperature when it is required. I get fine cooling when the car is in motion (no surprise) but when at rest and the coolant not activating the fan, the AC system is less effective with the condenser not being cooled. With my '94, the fan starts about 30 seconds after the AC system is switched on and the compressor clutch engages. (This is observed with a cold engine so that I know it is not cooling system activated.) This automatic starting of the cooling fan is mentioned in the FAQs as what should be expected.

Is there a relay which provides power to the cooling fan with engagement of the compressor clutch? I have done the compressor solenoid/relay solder joint repair on the Control Unit PC board for my '94 and wondered if there is a similar relay for the cooling fan.

I also wondered if it would be acceptable or advisable to connect a hot lead from the compressor clutch cable to the positive side lead for the cooling fan so that both compressor and cooling fan would start simultaneously.

Thanks in advance for any advice .
