Hello everyone, and thanks in advance for check out my little issue.

A week or so ago I picked up an '88 240 DL automatic, everything seems to be running just fine after I replaced the fuel pump relay and battery. As of now, it starts right up, no odd noises or scents, no visible leaks that I know of, idle is adequate and she runs fine - although I haven't driven it since the 40+ mile trip back to my place when purchased. 169,000 miles approx.

When I first looked at the car, the oil light was on and obviously this was my first concern with the vehicle. Previous owner said it was the sensor, and I scrutinized the amount of oil on the dipstick, engine sounds, and the way it drove before doing anything else. No problems I could notice.

It was remiss of me, but I didn't ask what type of oil he put in the car, although I haven't driven it myself yet as there's been some delay in me being able to get to the DMV. It has a Purolator oil filter, perhaps this is the issue.

Should I go ahead and get some Mann filters and what oil would you recommend for a car in the lower NY area? I'll probably do this myself just so I start fresh with oil changes.

Also is there any way for me to check if the oil pressure sensor is just off? Not to sound stupid, but I ran the engine at idle for a little while today, listening closely (nothing unusual) and then shut her off, waited a bit, took off the oil cap and there was certainly oil on it. I haven't owned a car in 2+ years and it's been a long time since auto shop in high school, haha.
