240 Exhaust Hole (with pic) 200 1990

While driving down the road I heard a loud thump, and a 'bolt' go flying the other way. Now I have a hole, and a loud exhaust!

I couldn't find anything in the repair manual, or the FAQ, about what use to be in the hole. Was it just a bolt? Can I simply cover/repair the hole?
