I recently posted about a front-end clunk over small road bumps on our 1997 S90. Here's what I found on inspection.
-Driver's side sway bar bushing is deeply split in two places in addition to the factory split.
-Doughnut shaped control arm bushings at rear of control arms are pretty cracked and split but the inner rubber is still connected fairly well to the outer rubber.
-Passenger side ball joint boot is torn but ball joint seems tight.
-Steering rack passenger-side boot is oily.
-Ball joints, tie rod ends, end links, front control arm bushings all seem tight.
The clunk is my first priority. I can't tell if the clunking is caused by the bad sway bar bushing or the deteriorating rear control arm bushings. I'm going to order two sway bar bushings, two rear control arm bushings, and at least one ball joint.
Questions:
How safe is it to drive for a week or two while I collect parts? It looks to me like the clunking would become super loud and constant before all the rubber in the control arm bushings gives way and the inner part of the bushings completely separates from the outer part of the bushings. It doesn't look like anything that would suddenly cause a dangerous driving situation, but I'd like to get other opinions before letting my wife cut loose with the car.
The parts FCP says are OEM: Are they genuine Volvo parts or just parts that the aftermarket seller claims are as good as Genuine Volvo parts?
