'93 945T, 260K miles.

I had the speedo out to repair the trip odometer -- a piece of the plastic reset mechanism was broken, and I was able to repair it with hot glue.

For archive purposes, I've attached a pic that shows the solder joints I needed to de-solder in order to remove the board. The red circles are the joints that must be de-soldered, the yellow circles are optional. Arrows are the two screws that need to be removed.

So I get it all back together and the trip odometer works fine now -- but I've screwed something up with the speedo. The speedo reads zero mph when stopped -- which is good. But when I begin moving, and get to about 5mph, the needle immediately jumps to 40mph and stays there regardless of actual speed -- so whether I'm going 10mph or 90mph, the speedo stays at 40.

Any thoughts on what's causing this, and/or how to remedy it? Also, how does the speedo work? I presume it's electrical impluses from similar to the flywheel sensor or the ABS sensor.
