940 Tailgate Rattle - I'm confused 900

The rattle is driving me crazy since my "new" wagon is otherwise quiet. I read all the posts and FAQ and still have a couple of questions.

1. What's rattling? In trying to confirm what is rattling, I had my son ride in the back and push on the tailgate plastic. It still rattled about 1/2 as loud, like something inside. So I'm not convinced it is just the plastic hatch trim.

2. why not fix it by either squirting inside that foam stuff that solidifies and/or wedging some thin foam cushion material (shim) all around where the plastic meets the tailgate?
