It is so cold here that I am begging for guidance. I would tear my hair out, but there is so little left, and I need it for the cold...
Our 1992 245, with 237k miles (an impulsive eBay purchase, which in the last 5k miles has gotten NEW oxygen sensor, ECT sensor, crank posn sensor, fuel pressure regulator and main fuel pump and check valve, main relay and 951 ECU... got the picture?)...
1. Starts fine in the cold, when cold, and drives away fine. OK!
2. BUT when it has been driven (= is WARM), and turned off,
and then sits for even 5 minutes (or longer...):
a. It starts fine
b. and works well for about 3-5 seconds
c. --> THEN Loses power for 15-25 seconds :-(
d. but then drives fine!
The loss of power is profound: the car can hardly get out of its own way, when driven on the street. And if left to idle, it becomes very lumpy/rough/uneven... until the 15-25 seconds has passed, and then in 2 winks of an eye all is well!
I checked for leaks in the intake tubing, etc. Haven't yet found any.
I did some other sensible stuff, which I have already forgotten. :-(
Replaced the AMM with one I thought was good: no change.
Dinked around...
N.B.: Disconnected the AMM, and ALL WAS FINE! Progress!
I replaced the 2nd AMM with a THIRD AMM, at dark last night, and the still-warm car started and idled OK.
TODAY it is back to the ugly scenario above. :-(
I am having trouble thinking about this straight.
And easy things that involve a DVM are slow and painful in the cold.
I've got Bentley's and a warm couch...
Thank you for help and direction! (I want a heated garage in the New Year!)
