My b-20 broke a rod. I'm wondering what the next step should be. 120-130 1966

The b-20 in my '66 130 gave out a couple of weeks ago. A loud "BANG", sudden loss of power and oil dumping everywhere is the end result.

Check out this picture:

You can see where a hole got blasted into the block right by the starter. A serious mess.

How might this have happened? I had the bottom end of the engine built out just over a year ago (August of '08). I figured I'd be able to get several years out of the block before I had any major trouble.

Is there anything inside the block which might be saved?

What can I do a second time around to keep this from happening again?

Any other damage I should be concerned about? (I'd hate to have to rework the head too, among other things...)

It seems like I can never get more then a month or two before something goes wrong on this car. Perhaps my 122 is just cursed (maybe from the block having been painted blue).

Lastly... does someone have a b-20 bottom end taking up space in your garage? Send me an email.

Thanks as always.
